What is a GSA Schedule?
What is GSA?
In 1949, President Harry Truman created the General Services Administration (GSA) to streamline the acquisition process for the federal government. GSA is the acquisition arm of the federal government that helps connect commercial entities with federal business opportunities.
GSA is one of the few self-funded agencies of the federal government, meaning it uses the Industrial Funding Fee (IFF) to generate funds, and continues to operate even during government shutdowns and times of economic uncertainty.
GSA has evolved greatly since its creation, and now manages government building real estate, federal procurement, and develops several government policies and regulations. GSA also plays a key role in helping the presidential transition process go smoothly and efficiently.
What is a GSA Schedule?
GSA Schedule contracts are indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts meaning there is no set limit on how much can be sold to the government or for how long. GSA Schedule contracts are a part of the General Service Administration’s Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) program.
The GSA Schedules program, also referred to as Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) program, was created to establish long-term governmentwide contracts with commercial firms providing federal, state, and local government buyers access to more than 12 million products and services at discount pricing.
The GSA Schedules program also allows for shorter lead times as well as transparency, making the procurement process more efficient for both government buyers and contractors.
Since the GSA Schedules program makes it easy for government buyers to quickly procure millions of solutions at discounted prices, it is one of the most popular government contract vehicles.
Approximately $36 billion is procured through the GSA Schedules program each year from over 12,000 contractors.
GSA Schedule contractors range from Fortune 500 companies to small emerging businesses, located both domestically and internationally. Once a company is awarded a GSA Schedule contract, they can have it for up to 20 years, making it a valuable long-term partnership between government agencies and commercial businesses.
